一応、訳も添えておきます。

人生に失敗した人で、諦めたときに自分がどれほど成功に近づいていたか気づかなかった人がたくさんいる。

遺憾ながらそのとおりなのだろう。そう、そもそも「継続は力なり」という言葉があるし、また、休みつつでもいいから基本的に「諦めないことの重要性」も、もっと強調されてしかるべきと思う。
