一応、訳も添えておきます。
やらねばならぬことをやる。個人的な不利益があろうとも、障害や危険や圧力があろうとも。それが人間倫理の基盤だ。
襟を正さざるを得ない言葉。
人間は弱いもので、やらねばならぬとわかっていても、自分に不利益が生じるかも知れぬ、障害や危険な目にに会うかも知れぬ、圧力がかけられるかも知れぬ、と憂慮すると、実行を躊躇してしまいがちである。
しかしながら、真にやらねばならぬことをやろうとすることこそが人間の為すべき倫理の基盤であるとするなら、それをせずにいることは、そもそも人間らしく生きている意味を失うことになりかねない。強靭な精神を持たなくてはならぬ所以だ。
ただし、「やらねばならぬこと」が真に「やらねばならぬこと」であるのか否か、と絶えず自問自答することもまた肝要であろう。
